Becky Renner is a novelist and creative writing teacher. A seventh-generation Florida native, Becky grew up in a strong tradition of oral storytelling. She wrote her first horrendous novel at the age of fifteen. It was about pirates with superpowers, enough said. She wrote a second novel in high school, also terrible, and two more in college.
Becky graduated from Stetson University in 2012 with a BA in English. By that time, her father had stage IV colon cancer. She made the decision to stay in Florida and take care of him rather than pursuing her dreams elsewhere.
After her father’s death in 2014, Becky was catapulted into the real world. She landed on her face instead of on her feet. She weathered loss and family discord to come out the other end in 2016 as a high school creative writing teacher, a homeowner, and a more empathetic person than she thought possible when all this drama began.
She is now studying fiction writing at Stetson University’s MFA of the Americas. She lives in New Smyrna Beach with her dog Daisy Buchanan and a house full of books.
